Gamescom 2014: Rise of the Tomb Raider

The sequel to 2013’s rebooted Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, was revealed at E3. Gamescom brought forth more information, in the form of (timed) platform exclusivity.


Basically, Rise of the Tomb Raider will launch on the Xbox platform first; only XBONE and X360 will see the game at launch. Initially, it was uncertain whether Microsoft was putting a ring on it and taking Ms. Croft off the market for us other-platform-users, and they weren’t keen on clarifying that (but, really, everyone knew it wasn’t permanent. I suppose playing silly buggers with release information is kinda Microsoft’s way now…). It’s now been said outright, however, that there’s a timer on the deal. I suppose Microsoft’s gotten Squeenix and Crystal Dynamics to STFU about what other platforms RotTR will get to for the time being, too.

So hooray! XBONErs will beta test the thing and the rest of us get a more polished release. Eventually.
